Stroud To Start; Jackson To Travel

Matt Viator announced that Cody Stroud will be McNeese’s starter on Saturday at Kansas, which was not so surprising given that he was technically the No. 1 quarterback throughout camp and will split time with Riley Dodge against the Jayhawks anyway.
Viator made a more unexpected decision when he decided to put Janzen Jackson on the travel roster for Saturday’s game. Jackson, who enrolled at McNeese after getting kicked off of Tennessee’s team last week, was originally supposed to stay home for the opener.
However, a foot injury to starting cornerback London Durham, who did not practice Wednesday or Thursday, prompted Viator to bring Jackson to Lawrence in case he is needed. Jackson, who has practiced four times with the Cowboys, will still be behind Durham and Guy Morgan on the depth chart and Viator said he will not return kicks.
