The Chennault International Airport Board on Wednesday approved nearly $1 million worth of expenditures for airport improvements.

The board gave authority to allow the executive director to award a $146,000 contract to Alfred Palma LLC for the installation of three 30,000-gallon jet fuel tanks.

The board approved a measure that would allow the executive director to award a $223,000 contract to build wireless infrastructure for AAR Corp. The project will take up to 90 days to complete.

The board awarded a $223,500 contract to S&S Sprinkler Co. LLC for Hangar C foam tank repairs because of water contamination in the foam.

Board members approved a purchase order for BlueLine Rental in the amount of $235,000 for a 135-foot articulating boom.

They also gave the go-ahead for a contract to be awarded to Calcasieu Mechanical Contractors Inc. for $98,000 for a building chiller replacement.

In addition, the board renewed a $37,500 legal services agreement with the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office for a one-year period starting in October.

The board rejected a bid for Contract C of the Hangar H project because it was not within the budget.

“We only received one bid, and we apparently need to reword the bid documents,” said Executive Director Randy Robb. The bid was three times higher than expected, he said.

In other business, Chennault has received a grant for phase two of its taxiway widening project, which will allow the stretch to serve as an alternate runway. The board approved the task order for engineers to continue the work.

The board also approved an amendment to the lease agreement with Bechtel Oil, Gas and Chemicals — adding 12 acres to the company’s lease.(American Press Archives)
