Three Lake Charles residents have been arrested in connection with the shooting at a local hotel on Mallard Street in Sulphur.

Richard Harrell, spokesman for the Lake Charles Police Department, said that at about 3 p.m. Friday officers responded to the 2200 block of Cline Street in reference to a drive by shooting. At the scene, officers located a victim with gunshot wounds.

“Officers learned that the subjects responsible for the shooting were driving a Dodge Neon blue in color,” Harrell said in a news release. “The victim was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition.”

Officers learned that the Dodge Neon was occupied by El Jerico Jermiah Bartie, 26, and Amber Nicole Trahan, 22.

Harrell said officers located the Dodge Neon on the 1100 block of Giovanni Street.

Detectives obtained search and arrest warrants for Bartie and Trahan, and the residence at 11210 Giovanni St., apartment 103, where Bartie resides with his wife. The Lake Charles Police Department SWAT team executed the search and arrest warrants at the apartment.

Trahan, of 2420 Glen Lea in Lake Charles, was located and placed under arrest and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. Trahan was charged with attempted 2nd degree murder, assault by drive by shooting and illegal use of dangerous instrumentalities. Trahan’s bond was set at $1.1 million.

Bartie was still at large until he was apprehended on Saturday at the hotel, where he opened fire at officers.

LCPD and Sulphur Police Department were executing an arrest warrant for the arrest of Bartie for attempted 2nd degree murder, assault by drive by shooting and illegal and use of a dangerous weapon or instrumentalities. Bond was set at $1.1 million.

“The warrant for Bartie’s arrest was the investigative results into Friday afternoon’s shooting in the 2200 block of Cline Street that left one man shot,” Harrell said. “The Friday afternoon shooting is related to the two drive by shootings that occurred on Cline Street Thursday morning.”

Detectives with the LCPD were able to track Bartie down at the Super 8 Hotel in Sulphur, Harrell said.

“Working with Sulphur Police Department, officers with Lake Charles SWAT Team and Detectives attempted to serve the warrant,” he said. “When officers announced their presence Bartie began shooting at officers through the door and walls. After 20 or 30 intense minutes with Bartie firing multiple gun shots at officers, Bartie surrendered.”

Bartie was transported to the Sulphur Police Department where he was booked on the Lake Charles arrest warrant.

While shooting at officers, Bartie intentionally shot his wife, Katie Marie Mancil, 25, who was later transported by Acadian Ambulance to a local hospital.

After being released from the hospital, Mancil was arrested by Lake Charles Detectives on accessory after the fact to attempted 2nd degree murder. Mancil’s bond was set at $250,000. Mancil was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center.

“All occupants that were inside their rooms at the time Bartie began shooting were evacuated,” Harrell said. “No officers with the Lake Charles Police Department or the Sulphur Police Department discharged their firearms. All Officers and motel occupants on the scene at the time of the shooting were not injured.”

Sulphur Police Department is handling the investigating into the shooting at the hotel and their investigation is ongoing.

Detectives Sgt. Lecia McCullough, Sgt. Frank Fondel and Kirt Farquhar are handling the Lake Charles investigation.
