Qualifying begins for March 24 election

Candidates seeking public office in five Southwest Louisiana parishes began signing up Wednesday for the March 24 election.

Qualifying for local races continues 8:30-4:30 p.m. through Friday at clerk of court offices. There are no candidate elections in Cameron Parish.

Candidates who qualified as of Wednesday; “I” indicates incumbent:

Ward 2 justice of the peace: No qualifiers.

Beauregard

DeRidder mayor: Misty Clanton and Mike Harper.

DeRidder City Council, at large (2 to be elected): Michelle Pierce Bennett, Narayan “MK” Dokwal, Michael D. Harris, Vincent LaBue (I), Chance Lewis and Billy Spikes.

DeRidder Council District 1: Kimaron Haynes Moore (I).

DeRidder Council District 2: Faith Buckley Scott (I) and Julian “Pee Wee” Williams.

DeRidder Council District 3: Gordon C. Jenkins (I).

DeRidder Council District 4: Randy Larken (I).

DeRidder Council District 5: Keith Hooper (I).

Merryville mayor: David Eaves (I).

Merryville police chief: No qualifiers.

Merryville aldermen (5 to be elected): Rodney Farris, Dale Reinhart (I) and Shelia Lanier Smith.

Calcasieu

Sulphur mayor: Mike Danahay and Christopher “Chris” Duncan (I).

Sulphur City Council District 1: Drusilla “Dru” Ellender (I) and Randy Hebert.

Sulphur Council District 2: Michael “Mike” Koonce and Hunter Pago.

Sulphur Council District 3: Melinda D. Hardy.

Sulphur Council District 4: No qualifiers.
