A 30-year-old Sulphur man has been charged with simple burglary and theft over $500, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Dallas S. Rainwater, 5508 Carlyss Drive, was arrested Tuesday.

“On Nov. 26, deputies were dispatched to a business on South Cities Service Highway in Sulphur regarding a burglary,” Myers said Friday in a news release. “Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the owner of the business who advised when he arrived at work that morning, he discovered the back door was open and over $2,000 in cash and change was missing.”

Myers said Rainwater, a former employee, was captured on surveillance video.

“Rainwater entered the front door using a key with a shirt over his face,” Myers said. “After entering the business, Rainwater deactivated the security alarm, stole over $2,000 in cash and change from the register and money box, and exited the business through the back door.”

Judge Kent Savoie set Rainwater’s bond at $6,500.

Detective Michael Connor was the lead investigator.
