New Orleans Bowl extends ties with Sun Belt

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The New Orleans Bowl has extended its relationship with the Sun Belt Conference for an additional six years, running through the 2019 season.

The bowl was created in 2001 to give the then-fledgling Sun Belt Conference a post-season tie-in. The conference and bowl game are now in their 13th season together, and Sun Belt teams have won the game seven times, including four straight.

Initially, the Sun Belt champion went to the New Orleans Bowl, but that has changed as the conference has developed relationships with more bowls.

This season, the Sun Belt will have tie-ins with the New Orleans Bowl and GoDaddy.com Bowl in Mobile, Ala. Starting in 2014, the Sun Belt also will send a team to the new Camellia Bowl in Montgomery, Ala.
