DeRidder man dies in three-vehicle crash

A DeRidder man was killed Monday morning in a three-vehicle accident in Allen Parish.

According to State Police Troop D spokesman Sgt. James Anderson, Michael D. Cooley, 52, was traveling east on La. 112 when his truck traveled off the roadway, over corrected and re-entered the road before striking a westbound log truck. The driver of the log truck, Harlen Johnson, 33, of Pitkin tried to avoid the crash and sidewiped another eastbound log truck driven by Freddie W. Busby, 56, of DeRidder.

Cooley, who was not wearing a seat elt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Neither of the other drivers was injured.

Routine toxicology samples were obtained for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Troop D has investigated 19 fatal crashes resulting in 21 fatalities this year.””
