A 63-year-old Lake Charles woman died Wednesday morning following a single-vehicle accident near the intersection of Dr. Michael DeBakey Drive and East Street, city police said.

Deputy Chief Mark Kraus said Katherine P. Harris died following an accident at 5:05 a.m.

“At this point of the investigation, it is determined that Ms. Harris was traveling eastbound on Dr. Michael Debakey Drive when she lost control of her vehicle, veered off the road and struck the southwest corner of a building,” Kraus said. “No other vehicles were involved and there was minimal property damage.”

Kraus said the Lake Charles Police Department, Lake Charles Fire Department and Acadian Ambulance were all dispatched to the scene to assist.
