LSU recommends Alexander as next system president

BATON ROUGE (AP) — A search committee has recommended that LSU's next system president and main campus chancellor should be F. King Alexander, president of California State University Long Beach.

The committee chose Alexander after behind-the-scenes meetings with possible candidates. The Board of Supervisors heard the recommendation Monday and will vote on Alexander at a special meeting next week.

He's served as president at CSU Long Beach since 2006 and before that at Murray State. He's also held positions at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana; University of Wisconsin, Madison; and University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Alexander is expected to visit LSU later this week, where faculty, staff and students will have a chance to learn more about him.

The LSU board will consider Alexander's hiring March 27.
