Voters in Southwest Louisiana head to the polls today to decide on a number of local issues, including the hotly contested U.S. Senate and congressional races.

Polls will be open 6 a.m.-8 p.m.

Voters should bring a driver’s license, a Louisiana special ID or some other generally recognized picture ID that contains both your name and signature.

In Southwest Louisiana the ballots include races for local municipal elections, School Board, district judges, district attorneys, justices of the peace and constables in several parishes. Some parishes will also have local tax propositions on the ballot.

All parishes but Allen will vote on 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal Judge between candidates Kent Savoie and Jamie Yelverton.

The race for 14th Judicial District Court Division G judge will be on the ballot although King Alexander withdrew from the race Oct. 10. Incumbent Mike Canady will be re-elected unopposed.

The race will still appear on the ballot in Calcaiseu Parish, but no votes will be counted, according to Registrar of Voters Angie Quientalty. Notices will be posted at the precincts to inform voters, she said.

Statewide, the ballot will include 14 proposed constitutional amendments.

Voters should familiarize themselves with the ballots before going to the polls as voters are limited to only three minutes inside the voting booth. Those in need of assistance or audio voting technology will be given 20 minutes to cast ballots.

Runoff elections, if needed, will be held on Saturday, Dec. 6.

Voters in Police Jury Road District 1-A will also be asked to decide on a 10-year, 24.36-mill road tax for maintenance and improvement of roads and bridges. It would generate $860,000 annually.
