5 indicted for drive-by shootings

Four people arrested in a raid of a Lake Charles massage parlor were not indicted when the case was put before a grand jury Thursday in state district court.

The grand jury did indict five people in relation to a pair of drive-by shootings in Lake Charles and a shootout at a Sulphur motel.

The grand jury declined to indict Maojin Cin, 60, of Lafayette; Pan La Ma, 61, of Lafayette; and Yanhe Wang, 28, of Bossier City, on charges of promoting prostitution and pandering. The grand jury also declined to indict Lake Charles man Melvin R. Elliott Jr., 67, on a charge of promoting prostitution.

The four were arrested in August after a 10-month investigation into the Asian Massage Parlor, at 242 W. Hale St.

El Jerico Jermiah Bartie, 26, was indicted on charges of assault by drive-by shooting, attempted second-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.

He is accused of committing drive-by shootings on Cline Street on July 24 and 25. Authorities said Bartie fired through the wall of a Sulphur motel as officers tried to arrest him on July 26. Seven officers were on the other side of the wall, according to the indictment.

Jessica Lynn Bartie, 28, Labrandon J. Bartie, 33, Katie Marie Mancil, 26, and Amber Nicole Trahan, 23, were indicted on charges of accessory after the fact to drive-by shooting.

Other indictments

Randy A. Myers was indicted on a charge of negligent homicide. Myers killed Kent Laughlin on Oct. 17, 2013, “by criminal negligence,” according to the indictment.

Judge Michael Canaday set a $50,000 bond and issued an arrest warrant for Myers.

Geneva Monica Young, 28, was indicted on one charge of cruelty to a juvenile. Young is accused of biting a 6-year-old boy on the cheek to discipline him.

Bajoshua Dan Oliver, 25, and Joann Thomas, 38, were both indicted on charges of indecent behavior with a juvenile. Oliver faces an additional charge of sexual battery.

The two molested a 6-year-old on Jan. 1, 2007, according to the indictment.

Gregory Demetrius Brooks, 22, was indicted on charges of aggravated second-degree battery and armed robbery. The incident occurred Aug. 31, according to the indictment.(MGNonline)
