Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies said the body of a Starks man was discovered Thursday morning in a small SUV found upside down in a ditch.

The vehicle was submerged in water in the 1000 block of Big Woods Starks Road in Starks.

Spokesperson Kayla Vincent said deputies, with the assistance of the Starks Fire Department, recovered the driver — Drake L. West, 23, — who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The initial investigation revealed the driver of the SUV was attempting to negotiate a curve when the vehicle drifted off the roadway, into the ditch.

The coroner will determine cause of death, Vincent said.
