Man killed in suspected hit-and-run in Westlake identified

The man killed in a suspected  hit-and-run in Westlake on Thursday has been identified as Michael D. Welch, 41, of Westlake.

At about 2 p.m. on Thursday Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 2600 block of Miller Avenue, near Smith Ferry Road, in Westlake in reference to a person in the ditch.

When deputies arrived they found a man, unresponsive in the ditch. After the preliminary investigation, due to injuries observed on the victim, detectives believe this incident to be a possible hit-and-run.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have information or anyone in the area that may have security cameras to call CPSO at 491-3605 or submit an anonymous tip by using the CloseWatch Calcasieu app or by calling Crime Stoppers at 439-2222.
