Fun begins tonight at annual Starks Mayhaw Festival

The 25th Starks Mayhaw Festival starts this week and features live music, a talent contest, a live auction, food, arts and crafts, and a mayhaw jelly contest.

The three-day festival takes place today through Saturday at the fairgrounds on the corner of La. 12 and La. 109. Admission and parking are free.

This year marks the return of the festival’s three-day schedule.

Last year’s event was cut to only one day because of the severe flooding that affected the area in March 2016.

A costume contest and talent show are some of the events scheduled for today.

Friday’s events kick off with a bike parade at 3 p.m. and entertainment by the Ball Brothers 7:30-9:30 p.m.

Saturday’s events will start with biscuits and a mayhaw jelly demo 8-10 a.m.

A scavenger hunt, sack races and dipper derby will take place 10 a.m.-noon.

A silent auction is set for noon-2 p.m.

The festival will include live music from the Rosedown Rockers, 3:30-6:30 p.m.; Zydecane, 6-7:30 p.m.; and the Willie T Band, 7:30-9:30 p.m.

For more information, call Evelyn White, secretary for the Starks Business and Civic Association, at 743-6297.
