JDSB honors students, teachers of year
JENNINGS — Jeff Davis Parish’s top students, teachers, principals and support workers were honored Thursday by the School Board. Students of the year:
Elementary — Ava Fruge, a fifthgrader at Elton Elementary.
Middle — Kylleigh Curlee, an eighth-grader at Hathaway High.
High school — Caroline Hardy, a senior at Lacassine High.
The students were nominated by their schools, with a parishwide committee choosing the overall parish winners. They submitted portfolios and were interviewed before competing at the regional and state levels. Teachers of the year:
Elementary — Jennifer Howell, kindergarten, Hathaway High. Middle — Roy Harris, special education, Lake Arthur Elementary. High school — Lana Myers, agriscience, Elton High.
Myers is a state finalist for the teacher of the year award, which will be announced in July. Principals of the year were Laurie Duhon, Jennings Elementary; Sharon Ardoin, formerly of Fenton Elementary; and Ben Oustalet, Jennings High. Outstanding support workers: Sonya McNabb, Welsh Elementary; Christy Hine, Hathaway High; and Bridget Hanks, Lacassine High. Todd Brown, a specialeducation teacher at West End Instructional School, and April Richard, the West End clerical aide were recognized with the program award.
