Beauregard recovering from storms
Beauregard Electric Cooperative, Inc. crews work to restore power in the Bundick Lake area Sunday after an F-1 tornado took down trees and power lines.
Some 80 residents of Beauregard Parish remained without power Sunday after the National Weather Service confirmed three tornadoes struck the area early Saturday morning.
Beauregard Electric Cooperative, Inc. spokesperson Danielle Tilley said Sunday that the 80 members without power were mostly located in the Bundick Lake area near Dry Creek, which is where one of the tornadoes is believed to have touched down.
“There are still a lot of poles and trees down in that area,” Tilley said.
Tilley said that after severe weather struck the area late Friday night, more than 8,000 members lost power.
According to a NWS report sent to the local office of Emergency Preparedness, all three tornadoes were rated F-1, with maximum sustained winds of about 105 mph. The Bundick Lake tornado, according to the report, made the longest path traveling nearly nine miles with a width of 1,200 yards for 11 minutes.
The report claims that the tornado touched down along Hwy. 394 and damaged several homes along its way.
“One mobile home lost most of its roof and several other homes had trees land on them,” the report states.
That same tornado also blew trees down along La. Hwy 1147.
In DeRidder, two tornadoes touched down between 1:17 a.m. and 6:36 a.m., with the first occurring near Bob Carsey Road where it caused downed trees and power lines along a section of US 190. That tornado traveled for 7.9 miles and ended near Doyle Sharp Road, leaving destruction in the Graybow area.
The second tornado touched down in the vicinity of Ball Road and traveled just over one mile.
Local director of Emergency Preparedness Glen Mears said that Red Cross officials have visited the area, and that so far no reports of injuries or fatalities have been made.
