Sowela plans student tours at Jennings campus

Sowela Morgan Smith in Jennings will host 430 Jeff Davis Parish high school students, along with their counselors and teachers, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5, and Thursday, Feb. 6, during its annual Flying Tiger for A Day event.

“Faculty, staff and students at Sowela Morgan Smith are excited to host our area high school students and showcase the various programs available for dual enrollment and post-secondary education,” Sowela Morgan Smith Site Coordinator Adrienne Abel said. “This year, an additional area involving Criminal Justice and related career options will be available for students to gain information.”

High school students will tour the Jennings site, meet with faculty and staff and learn about available scholarship and financial aid opportunities.

Sowela Morgan Smith offers seven on-campus programs, including Business Administration (also available online), Industrial Electrical, Industrial Instrumentation, Practical Nursing (LPN), Sterile Processing Technology, Surgical Technology and Welding. In addition, the College offers Online Culinary Arts and plans to add Online Criminal Justice later this year.

According to the Louisiana Workforce Commission, Sowela’s programs lead to 4- and 5-star jobs. The commission bases their rankings on educational requirements, salary and occupational outlook.
