Golden Knights begin new win streak

Which area team had the best win?

RA: South Beauregard ended a 12-game losing streak Friday with a 30-13 win over rival DeQuincy. Golden Knights backs Colby Hollier and Jayden Derouen had a field day with the Tigers’ defense. Hollier had 13 carries for 140 yards and a touchdown and caught a 40-yard score from Kyler Kibodeaux. Derouen picked up 200 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries. It was the Golden Knights’ first win since they beat Winnfield 36-6 in the first round of the 2016 playoffs.

WA: Lake Charles College Prep. The Trail Blazers beat Northside in Lafayette to earn their second consecutive win over a Class 4A team. The Blazers are undefeated and have won three games in a row for the first time in their history.

Who was the small school player of the week?

RA: Grand Lake’s Logan Granger. The junior running back helped the Hornets break into the win column Friday in a 31-8 win over Highland Baptist. Granger scored twice and rushed for 144 yards on 25 carries.

WA: East Beauregard’s Brycelyn Murphy ran for 240 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns in the Trojans’ win over Merryville.

Who was the large school player of the week?

RA: Finally back to 100 percent, Sam Houston’s Gerron Duhon had a career game on Friday to lead the Broncos to a 42-20 win over Iowa. Duhon rushed for 285 yards and three touchdowns on 27 carries and added two catches for 57 yards and a touchdown.

WA: Barbe running backs Devin Bates and Zene Chretien combined for 273 rushing yards and scored a total of four touchdowns, with Chretien scoring on a pair of runs and Bates scoring on a run and 98-yard kickoff return.
