Drug deal gone bad

Attempted first-degree murder leads to arrests of two

Two people have been arrested on charges of attempted first-degree murder in connection with a shooting in Vinton on Sunday that police said was the result of a drug deal gone bad.

Kordell Guillory, 21, of Lake Charles, was charged with attempted first-degree murder, distribution/possession of a controlled dangerous substance and obstruction of justice. Judge David Ritchie set Guillory’s bond at $200,000.

Hunter Nicholas Berry, 17, of Vinton, was charged with attempted first-degree murder, distribution/possession of a controlled dangerous substance, illegal carrying of a weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia, and obstruction of justice. Judge David Ritchie set Berry’s bond at $207,500.

Capt. Scott Spell of the Vinton Police Department, said four males met up for a drug deal, which ultimately led to the shooting.

Spell said when officers responded to a call at the intersection of Gum Cove Road and Williams Road, they found two males who had gunshot wounds to the hand and leg. They were taken to a local hospital where both were treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.

The investigation is continuing and Spell said more arrests are pending.””Kordell Guillory Hunter Berry
