McNeese men’s rodeo team is national CNFR reserve champion

The McNeese State University men’s rodeo team claimed its second consecutive reserve championship – second best in the nation – at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wo., and also won two reserve national individual championships Saturday night.

Clarendon College in Texas claimed the top prize with 855 total points while McNeese scored 790 points.

Four McNeese rodeo team members qualified for Saturday’s finals – only the top 12 competitors in each of the nine rodeo events qualify for the championship short go.

Kade Sonnier, Carencro, took the reserve championship in bareback riding in his second trip to the finals, while first timer Brad Hesnor, Ville Platte, is the reserve champion in steer wrestling.

In saddle bronc riding, Isaac Richard, Eunice, placed third.

For the women’s team, Kaylee Cormier, Iowa, took third place in goat tying. The women’s team finished 6th in the nation.

McNeese has competed in collegiate rodeo since 1947.
