Third suspect sought in fatal Rena Street shooting

Lake Charles Police are searching for a 17-year-old man wanted in a Sept. 13 fatal shooting on Rena Street.

Deputy Chief Kevin Kirkum said when officers arrived at the scene, they were told 29-year-old Jeremy Jamal Ware had been shot and transported to a local hospital by private means. He later succumbed to his injuries.

Kirkum said detectives investigating the incident determined that three subjects attempted to rob the Ware at his residence.

“A confrontation between the victim and the three suspects ensued and shots were fired, killing Ware,” Kirkum said.

Members of the LCPD SWAT Team arrested 17-year-old Walter Curtis Jr. without incident on Sept. 18  at a residence in the 1800 block of Rena Street. He is charged with armed robbery with a firearm. His bond has been set at $100,000.

On Tuesday, officers arrested a 16-year-old in connection with this investigation. The juvenile is charged first-degree murder.

Kirkum said the third suspect— 17-year-old Maalik “Meezy” Marquese Brignac — is still being sought. A warrant for first-degree murder has been issued and
the Brignac should be considered armed and dangerous, Kirkum said. Anyone with additional information should contact Det. Tre Mixon at 337-491-1311 or anonymously leave a tip via the Lake Charles PD app.
