Authorities arrest Lake Charles man for multiple drive-by shootings

News Release

On Monday, October 22nd, 2018, at approximately 7:01 AM, the Lake Charles Police Department was assigned to 4th Avenue and 11th Street in reference to a drive-by shooting. 

During the course of this investigation, it was revealed that an occupant of a vehicle traveling southbound on 4th Avenue began firing a gun from this vehicle.  There were at least two school aged children standing at a nearby bus stop when this occurred.

A short time later, at approximately 9:58 AM, the Lake Charles Police Department was assigned to 7th Avenue and Rose Street in reference to shots being fired.  During the course of this investigation, witnesses advised gunshots had been fired from a vehicle in the 2200 block of Rose Street.  Witnesses observed a white sedan vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, westbound on Rose Street from 7th Avenue, when an unknown suspect from the sedan brandished a firearm and began shooting.

During the course of investigating the above shootings, a suspect was developed and subsequently arrested. 

On Thursday, October 25th, 2018, at approximately 9:25 AM, Reginald E. Nelson, 35, of 402 Macy Street, Lake Charles, LA, was arrested and charged with aggravated criminal damage to property, possession of firearm by person convicted of certain felonies, and assault by drive-by shooting.  Nelson’s bond has been set at $550,000.
