Police: Attempted rapist broke into woman’s apartment through bathroom window

A Lake Charles man is behind bars today, accused of breaking into a woman’s apartment and sexually assaulting her.

Lake Charles Police Lt. Brenda Treadway said just before 3 a.m. Thursday morning, their office received a call from the victim, who said a man had broken into her Eddy Street apartment by breaking through a bathroom window.

She said the man sexually assaulted her and she was able to escape while the man was still in her apartment.

Treadway said the man has been idenitifed as 30-year-old Zechariah Moore.

“Patrol officers arrived on scene and located Moore hiding in the victim’s apartment,” Treadway said.

He was transported to the Lake Charles Police Department and booked on home invasion and attempted second-degree rape. No bond has been set. Moore was later transported to the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Facility for housing.
