Police chief in Louisiana arrested on theft charges

The Associated Press

MERMENTAU — A police chief in Louisiana has been arrested after authorities say he stole from a police officer association.

The Advocate reports that Mermentau police Chief Amos J. Crader Sr. was arrested on Thursday and charged with three counts of theft under $500 and three counts of malfeasance in office.

State police spokesman Master Trooper Brooks E. David says the Acadia Parish District Attorney’s Office asked them to investigate a theft complaint against Crader in June.

David says that detectives determined Crader made three unauthorized withdrawals from the Mermentau Police Officers Association’s bank account for personal gain.

It’s unclear if Crader has a lawyer.
