LC council OKs halt to approval of RV parks

<div class="left_side_button odn-icon back_to_page_button"><div id="articleViewerPopup_view_on_page" class="left_side_button back_to_page_text" title="View on page">The Lake Charles City Council on Wednesday unanimously OK’d a citywide halt to the approval of RV parks.</div></div><div id="articleViewerPopup_articleViewer" class="article_viewer ArticleViewer text use-3d ltr" data-olive-control="ArticleViewer"><div class="animation-wrapper"><div class="align-wrapper offset-wrapper"><div class="zoom-wrapper"><div class="article vert-center" lang="en" xml_lang="en" data-view-mode="text"><div class="Content"><p class="indent">The moratorium was originally meant to apply to Districts A, B and C, whose representatives wanted officials to study the “zoning districts, land use policies and housing patterns” in their areas.</p><p class="indent">The proposal was deferred last month and was up for discussion Wednesday.</p><p class="indent">Because of concerns in their own districts — E, F and G — council members Stuart Weatherford, Johnnie Thibodeaux and Mark Eckard joined the effort.</p><p class="indent">The moratorium will last until a study of the city’s zoning classifications can be done. The study completion date is Dec. 31.</p><p class="indent">“Probably the worst thing to a developer is uncertainty,” Weatherford said.</p><p class="indent">“We don’t want them to rush and not do a good job, but let’s put a goal out there for them to complete the study.”</p><p class="indent">Also, the City Council unanimously approved giving Mayor Nic Hunter authorization to waive permit fees for home repairs done by volunteer relief agencies or their contractors for those affected by Tropical Storm Harvey.</p><p class="indent">“We are still in the recovery phase. We don’t believe as a city that our job is done until every one of our brothers and sisters is back into their homes as they were pre-Harvey,” Hunter said. “This will help us get there quicker.”</p><p class="indent">Hunter is asking for available licensed and insured contractors to work — for payment — to help in the rebuilding and recovery process.
