Four Jeff Davis School Board members unseated

Jeff Davis Parish voters unseated four incumbent school board members and elected two new faces to the board Tuesday while re-electing two incumbents, according to complete but unofficial election night returns.

Lake Arthur and Elton voters also elected new leaders.

In the District 4 school board race, Summer Lejeune unseated incumbent Denise Perry.

Lejeune led 372 votes, or 59 percent, over incumbent Denise Perry who drew 260 votes, or 41 percent

Paula Lejeune unseated incumbent Donald “Donn” Dees with 521 votes, or 56 percent. Dees had 410 votes, or 44 percent.

Janet Jones was elected to the office of District 6 school board with 234 votes, or 60 percent. Her opponent, Rhondella Richard, had 155 votes, or 40 percent.

In District 7, Greg Patterson unseated incumbent James “Jimmy” Segura. Patterson won by 451 votes, or 53 percent. Segura posted 394 votes, or 47 percent.

In the District 8 school board race, incumbent David Doise narrowly led with 441 voters, or 51 percent. Joseph Carter had 423 votes, or 49 percent.

In the race for District 10 school board, Russell Walker was the winner with 766 voters, or 78 percent. His opponent, former school board member Richard McNabb drew 219 votes, or 22 percent.

Blake Petry was elected to the District 13 school board seat with 597 votes, or 71 percent, over challenger Mattie Dugas Brassell, who garnered 249 votes, or 29 percent.

Lake Arthur voters selected Sampson “Poncho” Lejeune to be their new mayor and Jered Thomas as their new police chief.

Lejeune led the two-man mayor’s race with 553 votes, or 73 percent, over challenger Gabe Trahan who drew 204 votes, or 27 percent.

Jered Thomas was elected as the town’s next police chief by a vote of 628, or 84 percent, with challenger Trenton Thames garnering 123 votes, or 16 percent.

The five-man Lake Arthur aldermen’s race was decided with Debbie Abshire-Sonnier winning with 634 votes, or 19 percent, followed by Duke Broussard II with 553 votes, or 16 percent; Corey Conner who received 524 votes, or 15 percent; incumbent Ricky Monceau who had 511 votes, or 15 percent, and Mahlon LeBlanc who had 499 votes, or 15 percent

Other candidates were incumbent Auldon Robinson who got 352 votes, or 10 percent, and Sherry Womack with 310 votes, or 9 percent.

Kesha Lemoine will face Brandon Kelley in a Dec. 10 runoff election for the next Elton mayor.

Lemoine narrowly pulled 142 votes, or 32 percent, with Kelley drawing 141 votes, or 32 percent.

Other candidates, Brandilyn Soileau received 80 votes, or 18 percent, and Jared “Firecracker” Trahan who had 74 votes, or 17 percent.

Bruce Lemelle was re-elected as Elton police chief. Lamelle led with 235 votes, or 57 percent, of the votes over challenger Lane Perkins who received 180 votes, or 43  percent.

In the Elton council race incumbent Erica Francis led with 316 votes, or 18 percent; Tony Guillory with 290 votes, or 16 percent; Mary “Kim” Fuselier Thibodeaux, who received 260 votes, or 15 percent; Trudy J. Patterson with 245 votes, or 14 percent; Michael Pierrotti with 243 votes, or 14 percent; Saydie Ackless who got 241 votes, or 14 percent; and Forest K. Ardoin who had 189 votes, or 11 percent.

Voters in the rural areas of Road District 12 of Wards, 6,7 and 8, approved a 10-year, 10.94 mill property tax renewal by a vote of 1,097-924, or 54 percent in favor. The millage is expected to generate $771,600 annually for the maintenance and improvement of parish roads in the Welsh, Roanoke and Lacassine areas, excluding the town of Welsh.

Voters in the Hathaway, Fenton and Woodlawn areas also approved the continuation of a 10.24 mill property tax for operation, maintenance and improvement for Jeff Davis Parish Central Waterworks District by a vote of 867- 60, or 65 percent in favor. It represents a .34 increase over the 9.9 mill due to reappraisal.

Across the parish, voters favored John Kennedy in the race for U.S. senate; Clay Higgins for U.S. representative and Mike France for District 4 public service commission. Voters also favored Clayton Davis for appeal court judge.
