34-year-old killed in Moss Bluff traffic accident

A 34-year-old Lake Charles man was killed Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Moss Bluff.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kayla Vincent said deputies were dispatched to the 3100 block of North Perkins Ferry Road at about 7 a.m. in reference to a two-vehicle accident.

The preliminary investigation revealed a Chevy pickup truck turned left onto N. Perkins Ferry Road from Trisha Court, heading southbound, when it was struck from behind by a Dodge pickup truck that was also traveling southbound on N. Perkins Ferry Road.

“The immediate impact of the crash caused both trucks to travel off the roadway,” Vincent said.

The driver of the Chevy, Jose Martinez, who was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene.  A passenger in the Chevy was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

Impairment is not suspected and deputies believe fog is the main factor contributing to the crash, Vincent said.

The investigation is continuing and the coroner will determine cause of death.

CPSO Sr. Cpl. Travis Carroll is the lead investigator on this crash
