Sex offender arrested, uses victim’s identity for online purchases

News Release

On Friday September 7, 2018 at 1:30 P.M., the Lake Charles Police Department Detectives arrested Louisiana Sex Offender, Michael John Landry, 51 years of age, for Identity Theft, Theft and Failure to Register/Notify as a Sex Offender.

In early July 2018 Detective Colby Thompson was assigned a theft investigation that lead to Landry’s involvement. Detective Thompson was assisted by Detective Michael Nicosia in the investigation due to identifying Michael Landry as a registered sex offender.  

During the investigation it was learned Michael Landry was using victim’s information for online purchases then selling the property to others and operating a vehicle not registered with law enforcement.

Michael Landry was convicted in 2009 for Indecent Behavior with Juveniles, his victim was his 8 year daughter and 12 year step-daughter.

Michael Landry is a Louisiana Tier 1 Sex Offender requiring him to register for 15 years with law enforcement.

Michael Landry is currently incarcerated at Calcasieu Correctional Center on bonds totaling $60,000.00.

Charges:

Failure to Register/Notify as a Sex Offender – Bond $25,000.00

Identity Theft – Bond $25,000.00
