Two arrested, charged with second-degree murder

Two Lake Charles men were arrested Wednesday night in connection with a fatal shooting that took place Dec. 21 at 3517 Polk St. in Lake Charles, police said.

Julius Obrian Lambert, 33, 976 C McKenzie Circle, and Byron Jermane Hanchett, 35, 1609 14th St., were charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of 34-year-old Howard C. Jones of Sulphur. Hanchett was also charged with cocaine distribution.

According to a news release from Lake Charles Police Cpl. Larry Moss, Jones traveled to the Polk Street location for a drug deal. After arriving, Jones began arguing with Lambert and Hanchett. When he left the scene, the two followed Jones and shot him several times. He was taken to a local hospital and later died from his injuries.

After detectives identified Lambert and Hanchett as the suspects involved in the shooting, LCPD SWAT officers arrested them around 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Lambert’s bond was set at $400,000, and Hanchett’s bond was set at $406,000. The investigation is ongoing.””Arrested Julius Lambert and Bryon Hanchett
