The 35th annual Martin Luther King Festival included a parade on Monday through the streets of Lake Charles on the final day of the long holiday weekend celebration. The theme of this year’s festival was “Not Everybody Can Be Famous But Everybody Can Be Great Because Greatness is Determined by Service … You Only Need a Heart Full of Grace and a Soul Generated by Love.” Following the parade, the fun continued with Family Day activities including zydeco, blues and soul music, a gumbo and sauce piquant cook-off, arts and crafts, and booths offering Cajun and Creole cuisine. The MLK Festival was chosen as a Top 20 event by the Southeast Tourism Society in 2018.
