Congrats in order for new Ward 3 Marshal

The American Press

Congratulations are in order to Vic Salvador, Ward 3’s newest city marshal.

Salvador was elected Dec. 8 to serve the last two years of Joey Alcede’s remaining term.

Alcede retired this month.

A graduate of McNeese State University, Salvador, a 30-year veteran of law enforcement, recently retired from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office as commander and chief deputy over the civil division.

While campaigning for city marshal, Salvador said he was interested in seeking legislation to cap the marshal’s salary, which he said is out of line with other elected officials.

Alcede’s 2017 report to the Louisiana Board of Ethics showed his office received $442,828. The 2016 report had a salary of $187,607. The increase was largely the result of vehicle repossession fees that went to the Sheriff’s Office instead of the marshal as part of the office’s commissions.

Salvador said he would use the surplus funds created by a salary cap to provide deputies with standardized weapons and body armor, enhanced training and equipment, raise deputies’ pay and improve services.

Salvador also spoke on the need to educate the public on the duties of the office, including courtroom security, serving warrants, evictions and repossessions. He mentioned visiting churches and civic groups in his plan to do so.

Ahead of the election, Salvador told the American Press he “has been a public servant my entire career and that is all I’ve ever wanted to do. With today’s climate in our country, we need strong leadership in our law enforcement agencies and I have that experience. If elected, I pledge to serve with integrity and compassion.”

Salvador has served in leadership positions in multiple law enforcement agencies, including the CPSO and Ward 3 Marshal’s Office, and has managed a budget of more than $30 million.

We ask all local residents to join us in offering the new city marshal our support.””
