Mallard Golf Club plays host to youth golfers

Mallard Golf Club, the city of Lake Charles’ municipal golf course, is set to host several major youth golf events this year.

The American Junior Golf Association will kick the series off with their tournament set for course play March 28-31.

The AJGA is a nonprofit organization working to develop the best men and women junior golfers in the country. Notable program alumni include Tiger Woods, Nelly Korda, Scottie Scheffler, Lexi Thompson, Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler.

“Hosting the best junior golfers in the country is a major win for the City of Lake Charles,” said Mayor Nic Hunter. “In addition to this notable tournament, we are looking forward to a number of other junior golf events set to expand the sport to children throughout our community.”

Mallard Golf Club will host five Junior Golf Camps in 2024. Camps will take place at Mallard Golf Club on April 3-5, June 12-14, and July 17-19, and free golf camps will also be hosted at Grace and Medora Park on June 3 and at JD Clifton Park on July 1.

Sterling Golf Inc., professional course manager for Mallard Golf Club, has successfully acquired five sets of golf clubs from nonprofit Sticks for Kids. These clubs will be used at the camps slated for Grace Medora Park and JD Clifton Park.

“We are excited about our partnership with Sticks for Kids,” added Rene Rangel, CEO of Sterling Golf Inc. “We are committed to working with the City of Lake Charles to make the sport of golf accessible to all children who want to play. These sets of clubs will allow us to host some hands-on golf camps at two City parks later this summer, taking golf into neighborhoods that have never had it before.”

Mallard Golf Club is currently host to 10 local schools who use the course as their practice facility and home course. The course is also set to host the Louisiana Golf Association’s Girl’s and Boy’s Junior State Championships in July 2024. In total, the Club is set to host 10 junior events throughout the 2024 season.
