Jeff Davis renews tax for parish library system
Jeff Davis Parish voters on Saturday renewed a property tax to support the parish library system.
By a vote of 927 to 327, or 74 percent in favor, voters approved the renewal of the 10-year, 5.78-mill tax, which generates $1.2 million annually.
The money is used to maintain and operate the system headquarters in Jennings, as well as branches in Lake Arthur, Elton and Welsh and the bookmobile.
Library Director Linda LeBert Corbello said the tax revenue is also used to fund programs for children and adults at each library; to buy books, DVDs and other materials; and to support the libraries’ outreach services.
Voter turnout was 6 percent.
The item was the only thing on the ballot in Jeff Davis Parish.
