Welsh Library Board of Control accepts bids for renovation

<p class="p1">JENNINGS — The McBurney Memorial Library in Welsh is set to undergo a $78,920 renovation to the employee restroom and roof.</p><p class="p1">Library Director Linda LeBert Corbello told the Jeff Davis Parish Police Jury on Wednesday that the Library Board of Control accepted bids this week for the two major projects for the Welsh library.</p><p class="p1">Daughdrill General Contractor and Roofing of Westlake was awarded a $58,695 bid to replace the roof of the building, which was built in the 1970s.</p><p class="p1">The original bid for the roof project was $66,666, but was reduced, Corbello said.</p><p class="p1">A second bid of $20,225 was awarded to Carlton Construction of Kinder for an additional restroom area for the employees. The project will require plumbing to be relocated to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards, Corbello said.</p><p class="p1">Architects Beazley Moleiere of Lafayette are overseeing both projects.</p><p class="p1">In the last 15 years, the Jeff Davis Parish Library system has undergo major renovations and improvements to include construction of new libraries in Elton and Lake Arthur and renovations to the McBurney Memorial Library and the headquarters in Jennings.</p><p class="p1">Future plans include renovations of the basement at the Jennings headquarters for a meeting room and removal of the old boiler system.</p>
