Home invasion suspect arrested

Tips lead authorities to 24-year-old LC man in Arkansas

A 24-year-old man accused in a home invasion Saturday in south Lake Charles that sent a 68-year-old woman to the hospital was arrested Tuesday in Arkansas, authorities said.

Jonahvin D. Landry of Lake Charles has a bond of $800,000 and has been charged with home invasion, second-degree battery, theft and false imprisonment.

Authorities said Landry knocked on the victim’s door on L’Acadie Drive and when she opened it, forced himself into her residence and beat her.

He’s also accused in an incident that took place at a residence on Tom Hebert Road an hour before the home invasion and involved a second victim that authorities said Landry bit and choked until the man was unconscious.

During a news conference Wednesday by Lake Charles police and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, authorities said Landry was apprehended after they received tips he had fled to Fayetteville, Ark.

Judge David Ritchie signed a warrant for Landry’s arrest.

Police Chief Don Dixon said, “I put together a five-man SWAT team and sent them to Fayetteville and told them, ‘Don’t come back without him (Landry).’ ”

Dixon said the team began searching for Landry in that area and soon found out he was in a hotel there. When he left the hotel, Dixon said, the team moved in on him.

Dixon called Landry a “coward” and said once he was on the ground and in handcuffs, “he screamed like a little girl.”

Sheriff Tony Mancuso said law enforcement agencies worked together to bring about the apprehension of Landry.

“We aren’t going to let these things happen in our parish without a fight,” Mancuso said. “We may not solve them all but we damn sure try.”

Both victims have been treated for their injuries and released from local hospitals.

Landry is incarcerated in Arkansas and will be extradited here to face his charges.
