Retired LCPD K-9 Wilson laid to rest

The Lake Charles Police Department announces the passing of retired K-9 Wilson.

K-9 Wilson honorably served the Lake Charles Police Department from 2018-2023 as a dual purpose K-9. The 10-year-old Belgian Malinois passed at his home over the weekend.

Hired in October 2018, K-9 Wilson was trained in tracking, handler protection, building searches, narcotic detection and criminal apprehension.

Over the course of his career, he and handler Cpl. Josh Simien, had many successes while they worked side by side, including 20 criminal apprehensions. K-9 Wilson also assisted other agencies with narcotics detection and apprehensions of fleeing suspects.

K-9 Wilson retired from service on Dec. 4, 2023, and lived out his retirement with Simien.

“The Lake Charles Police Department would like to send its sincerest condolences to Cpl. Simien in his time of loss, and asks the community to join us in thanking K-9 Wilson for his dedicated and faithful service to our community,” the department said.

End of Watch, Feb. 3, 2024.
