Cyclist fatally struck Tuesday identified

Jennings police are continuing to search for a vehicle in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a female cyclist early Tuesday.

Investigators believe the crash happened around 12:40 a.m. on the Service Road, near the Louisiana Oil and Gas Park and La. 26.

The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Chasity Rachal, 28, of Jennings.

Rachal’s body was discovered lyingn in a ditch around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday by construction workers. An official cause of death is pending a coroner’s report, according to Police Chief Danny Semmes.

Investigators believe Rachal was traveling west on the Service Road when she was hit from behind. Police believe she may have been struck by a truck.

Semmes said Wednesday police are continuing to investigate and working to identify a possible suspect and vehicle involved in the crash.
