LC man accused of stealing five cars, burglarizing camper

A Lake Charles man is currently in custody after stealing five vehicles and burglarizing a camper in Allen Parish within a week.

James Spangler was arrested by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office early Sunday following a pursuit which began with the theft of a vehicle from Jesuit Camp Road in the Kinder area.

Spangler was awaiting transfer Monday to Allen Parish where he will face charges in connection with the theft of five vehicles and burglary of a camper in which firearms were stolen, according to the Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The incidents began Wednesday when Spangler allegedly stole a vehicle from a residence on Topsy Bel Road in the Reeves area. He crashed the vehicle in the yard and fled on foot.

The following day, the Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the same area in reference to a burglary of a camper in which several firearms were reported stolen. While deputies were responding to the area, another report was received about a vehicle being stolen from another residence nearby.

Deputies and detectives arrived in the area shortly after a third report came of a vehicle being stolen on Barnes Creek Road.

Deputies were able to recover the first stolen vehicle.

Later that day, deputies with the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office recovered the vehicle stolen from Barnes Creek Road. The vehicle was found on Greenwood Drive, just south of Allen Parish in the Kinder area.

On Saturday, a utility vehicle was taken from a hunting lease while the hunter was hunting. Deputies and detectives, with the assistance of the Kinder Police Department and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, along with several citizens were able to pursue and locate the stolen vehicle, but the suspect fled on foot into a river basin.

Spangler is accused of stealing a vehicle from Jesuit Camp Road in the Kinder area during the early morning hours on Sunday and leading police in a vehicle pursuit. The pursuit ended with Spangler being taken into custody in Calcasieu Parish.
