The Interstate 210 bridge shut down to westbound traffic for several hours Friday as responders sought to remove two large, in-ground fiberglass swimming pools from the roadway following a collision between semitrailers that day.

Traffic, already heavy as a result of ongoing Interstate 10 work, was backed up to Legion Street at times. Lake Charles police spokesman Larry Moss said the bridge closed at 11:41 a.m. and opened back up at 2:22 p.m.

“Both pools broke their straps and ended up all over the interstate,” Moss said. “It took them hours to get those towed out of the way.”

Moss said no injuries were reported.
