Victim found in trunk was soldier

The body of a woman found Sunday in the trunk of a car that was being driven by her husband’s girlfriend has been identified, authorities said.

Fort Polk Public Affairs Officer Kim Reischling said the body is that of Shelena Kyle, 22, a member of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division.

Kyle’s husband, Cpl. Logan T. Kyle, 22, also a member of the combat team, has been arrested in her death.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of this Patriot family member,” said Col. Kendall J. Clarke, brigade commander, in an email to the American Press. “She was a member of our family and her death affects us all. We send our most sincere condolences to her family and friends.”

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso said during a news conference Monday that he got a tip from the Beauregard Sheriff’s Office of a man and woman “driving around with a body in their car, looking for a place to dump it.” Deputies located the car on N. Franklin Street in Lake Charles.

“They searched the car and, sure enough, there was a body in the trunk,” Mancuso said.

Driving the car was Sarah M. Parker, 24, 2553 Brackenridge Road, Moss Bluff; Logan Kyle was her passenger. Parker’s two children, ages 1 and 2, were in the back seat.

Mancuso said Kyle’s wife had been killed at Fort Polk and that Parker attempted to aid him with the disposal and concealment of her body.

Mancuso said Parker was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with obstruction of justice and failure to report a homicide. Her bond is still pending.

Parker’s two children were taken into state custody by the Department of Children and Family Services, Mancuso said.

Because the homicide happened at Fort Polk, CPSO detectives detained Logan Kyle, who was later picked up by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command.

Reischling said Logan Kyle joined the Army four years ago and was assigned to Fort Polk in February 2017. He served as an infantry fire team leader for the combat team.
