Murder indictment in death of dispatcher

If convicted, Marrero man faces life in prison

A Beauregard Parish Grand Jury returned a formal bill of indictment Monday against the man accused of murdering a BPSO dispatcher at her DeRidder home.

According to Beauregard Parish District Attorney James Lestage, Phil Oliver, 35, of Marrero, faces one count of second-degree murder for the death of 24-year-old Marquita Wright. He continues to be held with no bond set, Lestage said.

Authorities have said that Oliver was an ex-boyfriend of Wright.

Wright was found shot outside of her home on Aug. 27 just before 5 a.m. Authorities said that she had just returned home from ending her night shift as BPSO dispatcher. Wright’s three young children were inside the home at the time of the shooting, authorities said, but no one else was harmed.

Oliver was arrested by Louisiana State Police on Sept. 6, and was extradicted to Beauregard Parish.

If convicted, he faces a sentence of life in prison.
