Deputies investigating possible hit-and-run after body found in ditch

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating a possible hit-and-run fatality after finding a man unresponsive in a Westlake ditch.

Spokesperson Kayla Vincent said deputies were dispatched to the 2600 block of Miller Avenue, near Smith Ferry Road, in Westlake at about 2 p.m. Thursday in reference to a person in the ditch.

“When deputies arrived they found a man, unresponsive in the ditch,” Vincent said. “After the preliminary investigation, due to injuries observed on the victim, detectives believe this incident to be a possible hit and run.”

Vincent said the investigation is in the early stages and more information will be released once it becomes available.

The coroner will determine cause of death, she said.

The name of the victim is not being released until notification of next of kin.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have information or anyone in the area that may have security cameras to please call CPSO at 491-3605.  You can also submit an anonymous tip by using the CloseWatch Calcasieu app or by calling Crime Stoppers at 439-2222.
