Gridiron Show full of humorous skits, parodies
Tickets for the 46th annual Gridiron show may be purchased at www.adpressclub.com or by emailing gridironshow@yahoo.com.
The Ad and Press Club of Southwest Louisiana will host its 46th Annual Gridiron Show on Saturday, July 28, in the Buccaneer Room of the Lake Charles Civic Center. Considered the “Saturday Night Live of Southwest Louisiana,” the local tradition features humorous skits, parodies and songs about relevant media and news personalities.
This year’s show, “Bridge Over Troubled Waters,” will include banter and wit over hot issues like the pending bridge repairs and the local lawmakers involved, said Pam McGough, public relations representative for the board.
“It’s definitely fun making fun of people, but in a nice way. A lot of shows might get a little hurtful. Ours is not. We do things that are already in the news,” she said.
All of the scenes are written and performed by members of the club, and McGough said the group has been known to write material up to the day of the show to keep it fresh and engaging.
“It’s like a roast, and it’s all done in fun and jest,” McGough said.
Proceeds from the event will go toward Ad and Press Club scholarships at McNeese State University and Sowela Technical Community College.
The scholarship fund was started 15 to 20 years ago to support the educational pursuits of mass communication students at McNeese and graphic arts students at Sowela.
“Everything is done for the purpose of educating our future employees,” McGough said. “We all look forward to retiring one day, and we want these students to be ready to come up and take our place.”
Doors will open at 6 p.m. for networking and dinner; the show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 for a single or $400 for a table of eight. Tickets may be purchased at www.adpressclub.com or by emailing gridironshow@yahoo.com.
