DeRidder, Jennings try to solidify playoff positions
While most area high school football district titles have been decided and many teams know the postseason awaits, there are a handful of teams whose postseason fate hangs in the balance this week.
Area teams on the bubble include DeRidder in Class 4A, and Jennings in Class 3A, both of which play tonight.
Jennings hasn’t missed the playoffs since 2004 but is ranked 29th and will play District 4-3A champion Lake Charles College Prep (8-1, 5-0).
Jennings is more than half a point ahead of No. 33 Richwood. While a loss to the No. 6 Trailblazers might not hurt the Bulldogs much, a win eliminates the guessing. The top 32 teams qualify for the playoffs.
DeRidder is rated 30th in 4A and has a comfortable 1.05 point lead on No. 33 West Ouachita. The Dragons will travel to play winless Grant (0-9, 0-3) .
District 4-1A
Basile (7-2, 5-1) will travel to Hamilton Christian (1-8, 1-5) while Oberlin (7-2, 4-2) will host Elton (3-6, 3-3). Both Basile and Oberlin will host in the first round of the playoffs as both are ranked in the top 10 in Class 1A.
Merryville (4-5, 4-2) will put its four-game win streak to the test when it travels to district champ St. Edmund (8-1, 6-0).
