US Attorney’s Office confirms ‘activities’ at Harbor Hospice

Davilyn Walston, spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Beaumont, Texas, confirmed Friday that “federal activities involving an ongoing investigation” occurred amid reports that Harbor Hospice offices in Lake Charles and Beaumont were raided by federal agents Thursday.

The Beaumont office of Dr. Qamar U. Arfeen, founder of Harbor Hospice, was also reportedly searched.

The American Press contacted FBI spokesman Craig Betbeze in New Orleans about the Lake Charles raid. He referred the paper back to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Texas.

Walston said she couldn’t offer further information on the nature of the activities or the investigation.

A call to Harbor Hospice’s Beaumont headquarters for comments wasn’t returned.

Harbor Hospice provides services for the terminally ill either in their home or in one of its inpatient facilities.

The organization has 51 locations in five states with dedicated inpatient facilities in Lake Charles, Beaumont, Houston, Dallas and Jasper, Texas.
