Louisiana State Police Troop D Sgt. James Anderson said troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 westbound at 4 p.m. Monday about one mile east of La. 397.

The preliminary investigation revealed a passenger car was traveling west on I-10 when the driver lost control of the vehicle during a heavy rainstorm. The vehicle ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree, Anderson said.

The front seat passenger in the vehicle, identified as 56-year-old Gregory Dwayne Franklin of Lake Charles, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office, he said.

The driver, 53-year-old Lincoln Williams of Lake Charles, was seriously injured and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, Anderson said. A passenger in the back seat received minor injuries.

Names are being withheld at this time pending notification of family members, Anderson said.

Troop D has investigated 17 fatal crashes resulting in 17 deaths in 2018.  ””Fatal crash – graphicAmerican Press
