Blue Dog to host zydeco lunch series

Blue Dog Cafe’s Zydeco Saturday lunch series — which runs through Aug. 25 — will feature musician Cedryl Ballou 11 a.m.-2 p.m. today, June 28. The restaurant, at 609 Ryan St., will open its doors for the event at 10:30 a.m.

“Providing great local music has always been a priority for Blue Dog Cafe,” said Jacque Rodrigue, son of late “Blue Dog” artist George Rodrigue. “Dad loved zydeco music and painted several zydeco musicians like Clifton Chenier during his career.”

Blue Dog Cafe co-owner Steve Santillo said the first Zydeco Saturday, held last week, “was very well-attended.”

The Zydeco Saturday lunch menu includes redfish ceviche and wonton chips, cracklins served fresh with a dusting of sweet heat, boudin balls and tacos.

“It’s a cultural experience,” Santillo said. “It’s an event, food, music, art and family fun, including the chance to dance. You can’t have zydeco and not have dancing.”

Future zydeco entertainers include Rosie Ledet, Rusty Metoyer, Curley Taylor and Brandon Ledet.

Admission is $5 for adults and free for children 12 and under. The dining room remains open with no cover.
