Blue Dog painting will hang in City Hall

A copy of a painting by the late artist George Rodrigue will be on display at Lake Charles City Hall.

Rodrigue’s son, Jacques, presented the painting, “Midnight in LaPlace,” to the City Council on Wednesday. He described it as one of George’s Blue Dog artworks “in the traditional Louisiana landscape.”

“Dad always said if he wasn’t from Louisiana, he probably never would have started painting in the first place,” Jacques said. “This is a perfect representation that brings together the greatest parts of (his) career.”

Mayor Nic Hunter said the George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts has agreed to be one of the city’s Partners in Parks, working on an upcoming program at McMillan Park. Jacques said an event is scheduled in March that will involve art making and food.

The council also recognized Blue Dog Cafe Chef Ryan Trahan, who recently won the 15th annual Great American Seafood Cook Off.
