Sowela graphic arts students exhibit work
Several students in Sowela Technical Community College’s graphic arts program are featured in an art exhibition put on by the Walnut Grove Institute that can be viewed through the end of August.
The exhibit is at the Walnut Grove Lake Charles Post Office, 1490 Market St., on the building’s first floor. It is open 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Erik Jessen and Darrell Buck are two professors with Sowela’s graphic arts program. Two of the featured selections were Addy award winners.
Nikki Sue Alston, event coordinator for Walnut Grove, said the mission of the Walnut Grove Institute is to promote and educate residents on the arts, along with healthy living and environmental conservation.
“This (exhibition) is just one part of that,” Alston said. “We get new artists every quarter.”
Alston said previous partners with the art exhibition include Hamilton Christian Academy and St. Louis Catholic High School.
The students featured at the exhibition include: Brookin Alexander, Brandon Boggs, Joel Dees, Cheryl Janise, Aspen Keel, Kaitlyn McFarlin, William Sherwood and Katelyn Vincent. The selections were made using Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, ink and photography.
