Qualifying ends, ballots set for November election

The ballots are now set and Southwest Louisiana voters will now know who they are voting for during the fall elections.

The candidate qualifying period ended Friday with more than two dozen candidates tossing their hats into the ring ahead of the Nov. 5 open primary, presidential and congressional elections across the state.

Several others, including a dozen incumbents, were elected outright after no one filed to run against them during the three-day qualifying period, according to the Secretary of State’s office.

Qualifying for a special Justice of the Peace, Ward 3 election in Cameron Parish will have to be reopened after no one qualified for the seat at the close of the qualifying period.
